The boys and girls had to work collaboratively to solve a range of Maths problems to determine which student took the teachers box of Valentine's Day Chocolates. They showed great teamwork and leadership skills throughout in addition to showing off their super mathematical skills. Well done everyone.
Third and fourth class have been busy learning about the differences between renewable and non-renewable sources of energy. Using their new knowledge, they were tasked with designing a home using renewable sources of energy. The level of discussion that took place between the students was outstanding. Group work is something that the students of Killina do very well as each member of the team is always encouraged to work to the best of their ability.
Third and fourth have been busy helping Mr. Tyrrell to do his Christmas shopping. They used different catalogues to decide on presents for Mr. Tyrrell's brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Some groups were given a budget of €150 for the childrens' presents and other groups had a budget of €250 to choose gifts for the grown-ups. It was great to see the boys and girls using real-life maths to solve problems with money.
3rd and 4th class have been busy learning about fractions over the last week and a half. Third class were exploring halves, quarter and eighths whilst fourth class have been finding fractions of a number and also exploring equivalent fractions. They have been playing a number of games to consolidate their learning. Here are a few pictures of them in action.
Well done to the boys and girls in our senior classes. They put on a fantastic science exhibition for all of our classes. Our students were introduced to a wide range of science fields including coding, behavioural science, nutrition and much more. The children in 5th and 6th put a tremendous effort into their presentations and the interactive experiments were testament to all of their hard work (the photos are only a snapshot of the interaction that took place). Future scientists were definitely inspired during this exhibition. Well done 5th and 6th (and Ms. Dalton) for your ongoing efforts and hard-work. Keep it up :-)
