The wonderful boys and girls in fifth and sixth class put together these slideshows of their local history trip to Kilpatrick Cemetery. They are super! Maith sibh, a pháistí.

First and Second class have been busy learning about different types of transport. To link in with Maths, the children completed a traffic survey from our school wall. We then worked together to turn our data into a visual bar chart. Well done boys and girls :-)
Third and Fourth Class have been keeping the STEM drive going in our school. They used a range of materials to investigate soil samples and to explore the different elements within their sample.
Our infants and 1st/2nd class are really enjoying developing their maths skills. Interacting with concrete materials and engaging in stimulating mathematical tasks helps our boys and girls to develop their early mathematical skills. These skills will lay the foundation for future success in maths as the children move up through the school.
3rd and 4th class have been busy learning about electricity. Today they tried their hand at making electrical circuits (unaided!!). It was great to see the children using their scientific skills as they engaged in the process. They even managed to add simple switches into their circuits. The next stage will focus on the introduction of conductors and insulators into each circuit. Watch this space!
As part of the 'Incredible Edibles' initiative, 3rd and 4th class were encouraged to visit a local farmer/grower to explore the stages of growing fruit and vegetables. Mary Kelly put us in touch with Michael in Monaghan Mushrooms and we were very lucky to be invited to tour the facility. The boys and girls (and staff) had a wonderful morning visiting Monaghan Mushrooms and they learned so much about the stages involved in growing mushrooms, when mushrooms are ready to be picked and how they need to be cared for during the growing phase. They also had the pleasure (once we controlled our sense of smell!) of observing the stages involved in making the high-quality compost which can be used for growing mushrooms. Michael, Derek (our tour guide) and some of the ladies who work in the factory answered ALL the childrens' questions and shared so much information with us all. It was a fantastic trip and definitely a great way to learn about how to grow and care for vegetables. Many thanks to the team in Monaghan Mushrooms for taking great care of us and for giving the children (and staff) treats and punnets of mushrooms to bring home. A great day all round! Take a look at our pictures to see how we got on. You might not recognise our students in their new school uniforms :-)
