A Brief History of Our School

Picture
Killina N.S. is a rural, mixed, multi-grade school situated in Carbury, Co. Kildare. There are 4 mainstream class teachers and 1 special education teacher. It promotes the Catholic Ethos, encouraging the children to fully develop intellectually, physically, emotionally, spiritually and morally. Children in our school are always encouraged to be the best that they can be.

The school was founded in 1955. The original building consisted of two classrooms. There was a fireplace in each classroom and a fire was lit each day. In the 1990’s a third classroom was added to the building. Then in 2006 the new extension was opened. This consisted of two additional large classrooms, toilets, storage room and office space.

In 2017 our third building project was completed and this added another beautiful, airy classroom and a Principal’s office.
We now enjoy four large, welcoming classrooms and a spacious learning support room, which are equipped with the latest technology of projectors and interactive whiteboards.
Outside, the school grounds have a large tarmac play area, school garden and football field.

The children participate in a wide variety of sports in our school including Gaelic Football, swimming, Gymnastics and Tag Rugby to name a few.

Our community of parents, pupils and school staff work closely together and strive to create a warm, welcoming and supportive environment for our students. It is the children of our school who will continue to write the history of our wonderful school.

“History will judge us by the difference we make in the everyday lives of children” (Nelson Mandela)
