LOW ENERGY DAY - October 2012

• A “Low Energy Day” was held in the school on Friday 5th October 2012. We turned off all electrical appliances and heat. Consequently we used only 4 kwts of electricity (the septic tank, computer server etc could not be switched off).
• This was a saving of 40-50 kwts of electricity. We used 0 litres of heating oil on Low Energy day.
• We had an Energy Assembly in the afternoon. The children sang ‘Our School Energy Rap’. Group winners of the Rap Competition performed their energy raps for each other.
• We brainstormed ideas on energy saving at home and in school. We carried out energy investigations and experiments. 3rd and 4th class made water wheels. 5th and 6th class made colour wheels and windmills. We shared our experiments with other classes.
• Recycling - We are continuing our ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’ campaign. We have a clothes collection every few months and are continuing to collect used batteries, ink cartridges and mobile phones.
