  • Excitement is building as we near the application date for our second green flag for “Energy”.
  • We have been working on the theme of Energy for almost two years now.
  • We have been busy ensuring that the whole school is fully aware of the on-going Green-Schools Energy Programme through our “Switch it off” Campaign.
  • We have held a poster competition in January 2013. The winners were:
  • - 1st & 2nd Class - Kayleigh, Lucy & Sarah
    - 3rd & 4th Class - Dayna, Ruby & Jack
    - 5th & 6th Class - Emily, Natasha, Jenna & Charlie
  • We have been learning more about ‘Energy’ through curriculum work:
  • - All classes explored the conservation of energy and renewable energy
    - 1st-3rd Class wrote reports on Energy Activities as part of the English Curriculum
    - In June 2012 1st & 2nd Class performed a play with an Energy Saving Theme, “Eddie the Penguin Saves the World”
    - All classes conducted Energy experiments as part of Science Week and Low Energy Day
    - 1st & 2nd class taught all other classes their Energy Rap
    - 5th & 6th Class wrote and performed Dramas with a Green School Energy Theme
    - All Classes composed, wrote and performed poems and raps with an Energy Theme
  • See some of the Energy Saving activities at the bottom of this blog post!
  • We have been informing parents of aims and efforts of our Energy Programme through our monthly Newsletter and displays on our Green School notice board.
  • We have been informing the wider community about our work through the school website and Parish Bulletin.
  • Part of our Green Schools work has been ensuring maintenance of targets reached in Green Schools Litter/Waste Programme by doing spot check bins to ensure correct disposal and maximum recycling, using our Composter to its maximum capacity, continuing to increase battery collection by a further 10% for 2012-2013, and increasing Clothes Recycling by 250%.
  • As this is the second year of our Energy saving campaign we have been endeavouring to maintain reduced energy consumption rates achieved in the previous year. Activities to achieve this aim have included:
- Reading the electricity meter daily and formulating graphs on energy consumption
- Continuing to do “Vampire Hunts” to ensure appliances /lights are switched off when not in use and doors are closed
- Comparing a typical Day`s Energy Usage with that of a previous year
- Graphing results and displaying them on Green Schools Notice Board
- Comparing Heating Oil usage with previous years and graphing and displaying results.
