Fourth and Fifth enjoyed their trip to the Botanic Gardens in Dublin, as a result of winning the National Incredible Edibles competition. We were blessed by the beautiful weather, which allowed us to enjoy a fantastic tour of the gardens. The children were treated to a planting workshop with Jean (our Guide) and they learned lots of cool facts as they went around the gardens. They made their own biodegradable planters and planted seeds, which we will be able to grow in our green-house. After the workshop, we were all treated to a lovely dinner in the cafe. The children then went back outdoors for a tour of the grounds and they also got to check out the amazing plant and tree species in the different greenhouses. The children, as always, were superbly behaved and they were once again complimented on their attitude and enthusiasm. Special thanks to the staff of Agri Aware (Kalyn and Ailish) and the staff of the Botanic Gardens for their support and encouragement throughout the day. We had a blast!!
Our school is still involved in the Demonstration Project for School Inclusion. We are very lucky to have a dedicated Speech and Language Therapist (SLT), Occupational Therapist (OT) and Educational Psychologist working with our school. Our SLT (Claire) is working with first to fourth class at a whole-class level to develop language and vocabulary. Sarah (OT) is currently working with our senior pupils on transitioning to second level. We are very lucky to have these therapies available to our children and we look forward to continued engagement throughout the year.
We had a fantastic morning in our school with the arrival of the Kildare County Council mobile library. It was a great experience for our children we look forward to the library returning every three weeks. Many thanks to Ronan and Heather for the warm welcome that they gave our children this morning.
Here are some samples of the wonderful art work that can be seen throughout our school. The children have been busy showing off their artistic skills and we are very proud of the creativity that was on display.
We have now archived our blog from the 2018-2019 school year. Please pay this blog a visit to remind yourself of the great times we had in Killina last year. The blog can be found here...
