We had a fantastic day on Friday 14th December for the annual Killina National School Christmas raffle. Mrs. Noonan's superstars started off the event with a fantastic rendition of Winter Wonderland on the tin whistle. Ms. Dalton led the 3rd-6th class boys and girls with singing Winter Wonderland too. This then led to the first of our two raffles. Our wonderful Parent Association put so much effort into ensuring the success of this raffle and it certainly paid off.
Fíona took over as MC for the raffle with Gerry, Kevin and Margaret ensuring that everything ran smoothly. The winners for the main raffle were:

Our school will close on Friday 21st December for the Christmas Holidays. We will return on Monday, January 7th. We wish every member of our school community all the best for the Christmas season and we hope that you enjoy making lots of memories with your families. We look forward to hearing all about them.
Our annual Christmas Raffle takes place at 1:30pm on Friday 14th December. Tickets have been sent home to all families or they can also be purchased from the school office. If any families wish to bring in spot prizes or know a company that would like to offer a voucher or prize, we would be extremely grateful. We look forward to the Big Event! Thanks as always, for your support to date.
Enrolment for new Junior Infants for the school year 2019-20 will take place between November 26th and 30th. If you wish to enrol your child in our school please download the 'enrolment form' here or call into the school to get a form from Aishling in the office. We look forward to meeting the newest members of our school community. Please contact the school if you have any specific requests. Many thanks.
These are the tasks that our students have been tackling this week:
The pupil who's estimate is closest to the correct answer gets to bring home the prize pumpkin. Go n-éirí an t-ádh libh! Third to Sixth class have been learning about the democratic process and are showing great interest in the upcoming Presidential Election. In preparation for our Mock Election next week, 5th/6th made presentations about the different Presidential candidates. It was also a great chance for 3rd/4th to ask questions and find out more information about each candidate. Coinciding with this, we will also be doing running our elections for 'The Student Council'. This Council will act as a student voice in the school and will consist of four boys and four girls from 3rd to 6th. Members of the Council will then be assigned to represent the voice of the children from Junior Infants to Second class. The boys and girls from 3rd to 6th are busy setting out their stall and canvassing their peers before the Student Council Elections on Tuesday. The buzz around the school is super and we are looking forward to their all-important 'Council Pitch' next week. We'll keep everyone updated.
Massive congratulations to one of our wonderful students, Rebecca who came 1st in the Clane/Lucan Kata (Karate) competition on Sunday 14th October. Rebecca will now go on to represent Ireland in the WKC World Championships in Citywest, Dublin over the midterm break. Best of luck Rebecca - we are very proud of you!
Our school has been selected by the Department of Education and Skills (DES) to participate in a pilot project which focuses on supporting children with speech and language and occupational therapy needs. The DES have issued a letter which provides details on the project. This can be found here.
Offaly Library are running an exciting competition for our Primary school children. They are challenging us to make a structure which represents Offaly, using only LEGO blocks. Terms and conditions can be found here (The application form can also be downloaded at that link). We encourage our boys and girls to get involved as it looks like a very exciting competition.
